Our Journey

Where We Are in the Process

UDATES: We are excited to announce that the First United Methodist Church of Gilford-Laconia has generously provided 6 acres of land to The Home Possible Project. This gift marks a significant step forward in the development of our flagship community residence for adults with developmental disabilities.

We are in the process of conducting a site survey of the property so that a comprehensive site plan can be completed, and more detailed architectural drawings are being developed to present to the Town of Gilford Planning Board for approval.

Now that we have received the generous donation of land from the church, we are launching a comprehensive Capital Campaign to raise funds that will support the construction and development of this flagship residence. Our campaign seeks donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and in-kind contributions to ensure the creation of a sustainable, supportive home that fosters independence and community involvement for adults with developmental disabilities.

We are also thrilled to announce our partnership with Lakes Region Community Developers (LRCD), who will help us secure the financing needed to bring our vision to life. LRCD brings decades of experience in creating affordable and sustainable housing, with a proven track record of success in transforming lives and strengthening communities. Their expertise will be invaluable as we work to build supportive housing for adults with developmental disabilities right here in the Lakes Region.

We are in close contact with the NH Bureau of Developmental Services (BDS) and they support our efforts. BDS will guide us through the building development stage and continue to assist us during our operational phase to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations.

The Home Possible Project’s plans, as outlined on our "Our Plan" page, have been reviewed and approved by BDS regarding the physical building space, settings guidelines, and proposed support services. NH BDS expressed great confidence in our plans and mission. We will remain in full compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.

Lakes Region Community Services, the area agency that provides support services to individuals with developmental disabilities in our area is aware of our project and supports our initiative.

We have engaged with numerous supportive housing organizations across the country to learn and incorporate best practices into our own model. One notable example is Visions for Creative Housing Solutions (www.visionsnh.org), a recognized leader in New Hampshire. Their toolkit provides an effective roadmap, and we have received valuable input and support from their Executive Director, Sylvia Dow, and her team. Additionally, Our Place in Dover, NH, under the direction of Laurie McIntosh  (www.ourplacenh.org), another supportive housing initiative inspired by the Visions' model, has provided guidance and input to our nonprofit.

We continue to work on educating and recruiting social service organizations, housing developers, financial institutions, community leaders, local businesses, and the general public to support our mission of building a community where everyone is valued and supported.
